Eating Seasonally Made Simple: July

The Summer months are already flying by. June passed by in a flash, and July is already here! And that means we’re already halfway through the year (crazy, I know!).

With the Fourth of July just a few days away, and camping trips and cookouts on the horizon, there are many opportunities to enjoy July’s seasonal bounty with friends and family. July’s produce is full of bright flavors and comes in every color of the rainbow. It’s the perfect time to try a new recipe or even a new food. Pick something that catches your eye and go for it!

Eating seasonally means eating along with the rhythms of nature and enjoying the fruits and veggies that grow naturally at any given time of the year. It boosts nutrient content, tastes better, is better for the planet and can save us money on our grocery bill.

Eating to Stay Cool in July

July is a hot month! Take a holistic approach to staying cool this month and eat foods that cool your body and keep you hydrated.

This means cutting back on “warming” foods that are sour or spicy, fried foods, red meats, and alcohol.

Focus on “cooling” foods like raw fruits and veggies, salads, water-rich fruits like berries, melons, and peaches, and cooling spices like cilantro, mint, dill, coriander, and fennel.
