2 Ingredient Gummies for Gut Health & Hormone Balance

These couldn’t-be-easier-to-make gummies are a staple in our household and I whip up a batch just about every week.

And the best part is, you only need 2 simple ingredients: juice and gelatin.

They make for a super quick snack you can easily grab out of the fridge anytime when you need something to nibble on, and they are especially handy during those busy mornings when you only have time to make a cup of coffee.

If I don’t quite have the time to make a full breakfast in the morning, I at least make sure to eat a couple of these guys before I drink my coffee to help keep my cortisol levels from spiking too high first thing in the morning. The protein in them thanks to the gelatin (about 4 grams per gummy square) help keep things in balance.

What is gelatin?

Gelatin is simply the cooked form of collagen, so it contains the same potential health benefits as collagen does. Gelatin can improve the gut’s integrity and digestive strength by restoring a healthy mucosal lining in the stomach. Unfortunately in our modern society, low stomach acid and intestinal permeability (aka “leaky gut”) are two common digestive problems. Adding collagen or gelatin into our diets can greatly reduce & help heal a leaky gut.

Gelatin is also known for improving joint health and reducing inflammation, which makes it a popular supplement for athletes and people who spend a lot of their time being physically active. Our joint health also tends to deteriorate as we age, so if you’ve noticed your joints aren’t what they used to be, it could be beneficial to add in some gelatin (or collagen) to your routine and see how you feel!

How Does Gelatin Help With Hormone Balance?

Gelatin doesn’t directly effect the hormones, but it does directly effect your gut health. And gut health and hormone health go hand-in-hand. If one is imbalanced, the other one is too.

It’s crucial to pay attention to gut health when trying to balance your hormones. If you’re dealing with a leaky gut or digestive distress, you aren’t going to be breaking down food the way you should be, which means that all of those lovely nutrients you may be trying to eat for your hormones won’t even get to where they’re needed. So, by supporting your gut health, you are also supporting healthy hormones.

Choosing Ingredients:

The ingredients for this recipe couldn’t be simpler, but it is important to choose the right kind of both your juice and your gelatin because many contain added fillers, artificial flavorings & colors that just aren’t necessary and can actually make your gummies do more harm than good.

JUICE:

The simpler the better. Pick absolutely any flavor you like! But check the ingredients list to make sure it doesn’t include added sugars, artificial colors or flavors, or any other additives. All of these things can worsen leaky gut and cause inflammation. Try to find a juice with just 1 ingredient, your fruit juice! RW Knudsen and Lakewood are 2 of my favorite brands I typically use (and they do sometimes go on sale at my local Whole Foods or Market of Choice which is when I like to stock up!) but you can pick any brand you like as long as you’re checking that ingredient list.

GELATIN:

Although collagen & gelatin are very similar, it’s important to use gelatin in this recipe because gelatin gels while collagen does not.

There are a handful of gelatins out there on the market, but I use for myself and recommend to my clients Perfect Supplements gelatin over others because theirs is made from 100% grass-fed beef and contains no other additives or fillers (like sugars that some other brands like to use). They’re also completely free of pesticides, artificial hormones, and glyphosate, contain no GMOs, and are dairy and lactose-free. They’re also 3rd party tested and display their lab results right on their website, which I appreciate in a world where brand transparency is hard to come by these days!

Perfect Supplements is one of the very few brands I have an affiliate with, which I only choose to do with products that I actually use myself and feed to my own family. If you make a purchase through my link, I will receive a small commission at no extra cost to you, of course. And if you do choose to give them a try (which I certainly hope you do!) make sure to use my code: “DANICA” at checkout to save an extra 10% on your purchase. My code is also stackable on top of any of Perfect Supplements frequent deals and sales (like their “buy 3 save 20%” bundles) so you can save even more.

RECIPE:

SERVINGS PREP TIME COOK TIME

16-20 5 mins 10 mins (+ overnight in fridge)

Ingredients:

  • 1 bottle (32 oz) 100% juice, organic if possible

  • 1/3 cup gelatin

Instructions:

Give your juice a shake, then measure out 1 cup and pour into a bowl. Pour the rest into a pot and gently warm (not boil) on the stove.

Next, bloom your gelatin. This means simply sprinkling your gelatin over your juice and letting it do it’s thing. When your gelatin has mostly soaked in and you can lift your juice blob up slightly with a spatula, it’s ready.

A nicely “bloomed” bowl of gelatin.

Once your gelatin is bloomed and your juice is warmed, add your gelatin to the pot and whisk or mix together until blended in evenly.

Next, pour your mixture into a square glass or ceramic pan. Set in the fridge for at least 4 hours or overnight. Once your gummies have set, you can slice them into squares (16-20, depending on what size you’d prefer). Enjoy!!

Alternatively, you can use any mold shape you’d like instead of using a square pan. My kids LOVE these little dino molds!

Check out Perfect Supplements full website here to see all that they have to offer (their collagen, beef liver capsules, and Vitamin D drops are some of my other favorites!) and don’t forget to use my code “DANICA” to save an extra 10% on your order.
